Three-star center Braden Pierce commits to Maryland men's basketball

Three-star center Braden Pierce announced his commitment to Maryland men’s basketball on Saturday.

Pierce got engaged during his visit to College Park this weekend, a visit he announced earlier in the month.

Pierce, a Woodstock, Georgia native but now a member of the post-college national team at IMG Academy (Bradenton, Fla.), is rated a three-star recruit by 247Sports but remains unranked by the site’s composite rankings. . 247Sports ranks him as the 44th best center in his category and the 24th best player in Georgia State. He’s relatively new to basketball, having only played competitively for a few years – one reason for his ranking – but has the athleticism and potential to make a difference in his college career.

Standing at 7 feet, 230 pounds, Pierce will provide an additional frontcourt option for the Terps, who plan to bring back second-year Julian Reese — a more tried and tested option — and rookie Caelum Swanton-Rodger, who has seen limited time on the court this season.

Pierce is the fourth entry for Maryland’s Class of 2023, joining four-star prospects DeShawn Harris-Smith, Jamie Kaiser and Jahnathan Lamothe. The class ranks 14th in the country, according to the 247Sports Composite.
