McDonald's is trying a strawless lid in some test markets

McDonald’s might be the last fast food restaurant to phase out straws.

The fast-food chain has been testing strawless lids in select US markets as part of a long-term effort to improve the environment.

“These lids help optimize our packaging and eliminate the use of small plastics, just one example of the many solutions we are looking at as part of our ongoing global commitment to reducing waste,” a McDonald’s spokesperson said. told CNN.

These plastic lids are designed to have a pull tab to prevent any liquid from spilling out.

Customers who wish to drink it must remove the tab and place it in a small slot. coffee chain Starbucks rolled out a similar feature with its lids for three years.

According to Restaurant Business Online, straws do not completely disappear. Customers can always request a straw if needed.
