NEW DELHI: Two Indian Air Force (IAF) fighter jets – Sukhoi-30 and Mirage 2000 – crashed near Morena district in Madhya Pradesh on Saturday morning.
“The aircraft was on a routine operational flight training mission. One of the three pilots involved sustained fatal injuries. An investigation has been ordered to determine the cause of the crash,” the IAF said.
The two aircraft had taken off from Gwalior Air Base where an exercise was taking place. The Su-30 had two pilots while the Mirage 2000 had one when it crashed.

An IAF Court of Inquiry will establish whether it was a mid-air collision.
According to Ministry of Defense sources, “Union Defense Minister Rajnath Singh was informed by the Chief of Air Staff of the accident. He inquired about the well -to be IAF pilots and closely monitor developments.”
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said in a tweet: “The news of the crash of Sukhoi-30 and Mirage-2000 Air Force planes near Kolaras in Morena is very sad. J I asked the local government to cooperate with the Air Force in a quick rescue and relief work. I pray to God that the pilots of the planes are safe.
