London (CNN) — British airline Flybe has “ceased operations” and canceled all scheduled flights, the company and Britain’s Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) announced on Saturday.
“Flybe, which operated scheduled services from Belfast City, Birmingham and Heathrow to airports in UK and in Amsterdam and Geneva, ceased operations,” the CAA wrote in a statement.
“We urge passengers planning to travel with this airline not to travel to the airport as all Flybe flights are cancelled,” said CAA Consumer Director Paul Smith.
In a statement posted on social media, Flybe warned that canceled flights “will not be rescheduled”.
The company has been placed under conservatorship, the statement said.
The Exeter-based low-cost airline was founded in 1979 and was at one time Europe’s largest independent regional airline, carrying 8 million passengers a year and operating over 200 routes.
The airline was struggling before Saturday’s announcement. flybe collapsed on the coronavirus pandemic as the outbreak has thrown the entire global airline industry into crisis. It was rescued in 2021 after administrators struck a deal with Thyme Opco.
