Two people killed and one injured in Citrus Heights crash

CITRUS HEIGHTS – An accident in Citrus Heights claimed the lives of two people Sunday night.

At approximately 7:45 p.m., the Citrus Heights Police Department received multiple 911 calls regarding a crash between two vehicles and a pedestrian on Auburn Blvd. near Cobalt Wy.

According to the Citrus Heights Police Department, officers arrived at the scene and found a pedestrian lying in the road and attempted to provide rescue efforts; however, the pedestrian died.

Officers also provided assistance to the drivers of the two vehicles who were then transported to local hospitals by firefighters. One driver died and the other suffered minor to moderate injuries and is being treated.

Although the exact cause of the crash is still under investigation, speed appears to be a factor, police say. It is unclear whether alcohol or drugs were also a factor.

The Citrus Heights Police Department Traffic Unit responded to the scene to investigate the collision. The westbound and eastbound lanes of Auburn Boulevard. between Cobalt Wy. and San Tomas Dr. will be closed for several hours while the collision is investigated.

The identities of the deceased pedestrian and driver are being withheld pending notification of next of kin by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office.
