Chase Bank is closing some New York ATMs early, due to ‘rising crime and vagrancy’
Citing “increasing crime and vagrancy”, Chase Bank announced that it was closing some ATMs in New York early, rather than allowing them to remain open 24 hours a day.
NEW YORK – Some Chase ATMs in the city are no longer available 24 hours a day.
Chase Bank has announced that various ATM vestibules will be closed along with branches due to increased crime and vagrancy.
In a response to a tweet calling a locked ATM “annoying,” Chase Support said it decided to close “several” ATM vestibules at 5 or 6 p.m.
A company spokesperson said the closures may be temporary.
It is not known which places are affected.
It’s a constant trend in New York. In August, it was reported that other banks locked up New York ATM vestibules to keep the homeless away.
From setting up makeshift shelters to using them for relief, homelessness has become a nuisance issue at some banks in Midtown Manhattan.
